Brussels, Oct 30 (EFE) .- Spain was the second country in the European Union (EU) that produced more pumpkins during 2016, with a total of 97,000 tons of this vegetable and only for behind Bulgaria, the European Statistical Office Eurostat reported. p>
Bulgaria led European pumpkin production, with a total of 133,000 tonnes in 2016 and almost 12,000 tonnes hectare of land devoted to this crop. p>
Spain, with 97,000 tonnes, surpassed France, which produced 96,000 in the same period, and also to Germany (87,000) and Portugal (75,000). P>
Up to 3,170 hectares of land are dedicated to the production of pumpkin in Spain, an extension only surpassed by Bulgaria (11,760), Germany and France (both around 4,000 hectares). P>
Eurostat publishes statistics on pumpkin production in the Member States on the occasion of the celebration of Halloween, which takes place tomorrow Tuesday and in which the squash is the most characteristic vegetable.
